Although Fall is admittedly not my favorite time of year – regardless of the fact that I’m a Fall baby – a trip to a farmer in October is picture perfect. If you know me, you know I’m not what you would consider the outdoorsy type when it comes to nature, but, I can manage a trip to a local farm in New Jersey to enjoy the beauty that Mother Nature has to offer.
Where I live, we are about an hour or more north or south to any New Jersey farm. We went to one last year to pick our own pumpkin, but it was difficult for us at the time since the boys were just starting to walk on their own, and were still really clumpsy on uneven ground. They tripped on the pumpkin vines, dirtying their clothes… which made me cringe. I’m still not 100% comfortable with them getting dirty – I’m a girl, and I just don’t like messes. And I’m a boy mom… so I’ll have to get over it, and used to it.
I found Happy Day Farm in Manalapan online doing a search for sunflower fields in New Jersey. The idea of being able to run through the sunflowers with the kids sounded amazing, and the farm also had a lot of activities for kids, including pumpkin picking. It was really such a gorgeous place, and seeing the curiosity on Landon and Nathan’s faces made me really appreciate how beautiful a rural place like a farm can be. The boys had so much fun being able to touch a lot of things, climb on stacks of hay, see farm animals and of course, go crazy in a sunflower field. Plus, you were able to pick your own sunflowers, and I’m going to save the seeds from mine, and plant them next year in our own garden.
The idea of falling for fall is starting to grow on me if it means I can run through a sunflower field!
