Prior to having children, I didn’t pay too much attention to the spare time I had. When it was just Mike and I, we would pick up and go places without much thought of what our schedules were the next day.
But as a parent, the concept of time and it’s fleeting nature is always on my mind. Time did become all the more precious with Landon and Nathan’s arrival. Time sets the tone for changes on a multitude of levels – how fast children grow and develop over a span of it, how you are always seeking more of it day by day… Working full-time means that I don’t have as much time at home with the boys as I’d like. I’ve discussed what this means before on House Of Jeffers, and while the guilt of being a working mother has shifted into an understanding of sacrifice for my family’s benefit, I value all the free time I have so that I can spend it with my husband and the boys.
Since Mother’s Day was on a Sunday, and the weather was beautiful, I wanted to take the boys to my favorite town down by the shore – Asbury Park, New Jersey. Spoken about my times on the blog, and often the colorful backdrops to some of my favorite Instagram photos, there is something so beautiful about Asbury Park that I love spending time there… with my favorite people. We walked the boards, did a little shopping during the Mother’s Day bazaar in the Convention Center and ate hot dogs and French fries on a bench. The day was simple, by the memories I have with the boys on Mother’s Day, they’ll be with me forever. Holding Nate’s hand as we walked, and seeing Landon’s face in amazement at all the colorful things around us – this is time well spent, and it was the best gift to get on Mother’s Day.
Can’t wait for when the summer gives us more sunshine, and for more days like this!
