One of my favorite places in New Jersey is Asbury Park. I’ve written about it many times on House Of Jeffers, and there is just no shortage of love that I have for the town. It’s come a long way, and continues to be one of the vibrant places to see in New Jersey as it’s arts and culture scene are truly one of a kind.
My sense of Jersey pride runs deep, and any time I come across events that are a little out of the ordinary in terms of weekend offers, I jump on it. When I heard that there was going to be a pop-up roller skating rink inside the Asbury Park Convention Center for Valentine’s Day, I could barely contain my excitement. Not knowing if my husband, Mike, was going to be game was another story ,but surprisingly, he agreed. The things you do for the one you love, right?
We took the trip down the Garden State Parkway, and headed to the Asbury Park Boardwalk, where the historic convention center is located. Inside, what used to be a music hall is now converted into an indoor shopping center with storefronts specializing in local arts showcasing their work in jewelry, clothing, housewares and all things eccentric, restaurants and of course, the arts. It’s also home to the Asbury Park Bazaar, a seasonal pop-up marketplace to find something unique.
Before roller skating to the best disco tunes ever, I had to stop by the Wooden Walls project located on the boardwalk where gorgeous murals offer the perfect photo op. A bloggers dream wall of landscapes full of amazing talent and art. I’m in love with this one from the Art of Pau.
After a photo session, where I intentionally matched my favorite Asbury Park mural, and of course some shopping, we strapped on our skates and hit the rink. It was so much fun being inside the convention center again, as I used to spend a lot of time there going to concerts back in 2005 to 2007. The stage area and upstairs are currently closed in some parts, but I hope that they continue to renovate and restore it as it’s full of so much history.
If you haven’t had an opportunity yet to see how much Asbury Park, NJ has changed, spring is approaching, and it’s the perfect time to take a walk on the boardwalk, try out the food, and of course, take in all the amazing history and culture in Asbury Park!
