Even though I’m not always a fan of the cold, this time of year is perfect for squeezing in some of my summer dresses that look like fall frocks. Faking out fall looks is so easy, and since I work in an office, the key item I need to convert a summer dress into an autumn-worthy look is a jacket.
Since I’ve made an effort not to shop as much (believe it or not, I have cut back significantly on clothing purchases), I’ve been getting creative with my outfits in terms of recycling pieces and pairing them with other garments in my wardrobe. For that reason, I invest in blazers, cardigans and swing-style sweaters since I’m perpetually freezing and it allows for layering with summer tops and dresses.
This short sleeve jersey knit swing dress from Piper & Scoot is uber cozy, flowy and chic. I love the length since in the summer, I can wear it like a maxi dress, but come fall, it’s long enough to keep my legs covered. And the short sleeves aren’t an issue thanks to this Rachel Roy Faux Leather Jacket.
Personally, a leather jacket is a must for me. But if leather isn’t your thing, I would recommend a tailored, mid-waist length jacket since you can wear it like an extra layer when indoors, pair it with pants for a dressier look, and of course, rock it with any dress.
So go ahead and fake those fall looks. No one will know… except for me.
