I am a big fan of the 90s fashion revivals. It seems like each year style predictions as far as what’s going to be in seem to include a reference to fashion trends from the 1990s… and I’m all about it. If you spent your teens growing up during the decade when things smelled like Teen Spirit (Like that Nirvana reference I threw in here?), then you probably lived in a denim skirt like me. Ironically, I was not a fan of Nirvana, but I did rock those terrible Looney Tunes t-shirts… You know, the ones where Bugs Bunny was kind of thugged out with Tweety Bird. Poor Tweety.
Hey, we all make mistakes. That’s why you make sure you also have photos of your friends in the same terrible duds… just in case they happen to post a #tbt on Instagram.
So, denim skirts are popping up everywhere, and although the A-line style is favored by most, the denim skirt is getting a contemporary feel as the silhouette is being turned into a skater-style skirt and midi skirt… and yes, I own all of em. Yet, I find myself returning to the classics: A button downed denim skirt paired with another traditional style staple – the striped tee.
Since I’m with my husband and sons on the weekends, I dress in outfits that let me be stylish, yet, don’t put me into a rut of being too simple. Um, no mom jeans here.
Yes, these pieces are classics, but it’s the details that make each a little more polished. The tee is actually a cropped length that is long enough to cover the waist of my jeans, but can get tucked in. And the adorable patch is what really sold me. It reminded me of the Comme des Garcons heart logo tee – and let’s face it, I can’t afford the real thing. This tee comes from my local Francesca’s in Westfield, New Jersey. Swoon. Heart. Love. All that good stuff.
